The one-bedroom in Williamsburg, and who it's right for

If you're looking for a one-bedroom vacation home in Williamsburg, Michigan, there's one in our portfolio: the Retro Condo w/ Beach + Pet Friendly | Mins To Downtown. One bedroom, sleeps four, a pet is welcome, and it sits close enough to East Bay that the water is the reason people book it. That's the short answer. The longer one is about whether a one-bedroom is actually the right shape for your trip, because Williamsburg rewards a certain kind of traveller and frustrates another.
Why this stretch of M-72 is worth the drive out from town
Williamsburg sits northeast of Traverse City, strung along M-72 between the city and Kalkaska. Call it twenty minutes into downtown, give or take the season. People assume that means compromise. It mostly means quiet.
What's actually out here is good. Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel is in Williamsburg, run by the Grand Traverse Band, with a smoke-free floor of slots, table games, keno and poker, and Bourbons 72 if you want to make a night of dinner first. Sand Lakes Quiet Area is a short drive away: hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing depending on the month, with the Broomhead Road trailhead reached by heading east on M-72 and turning south. You'll want a state park pass or a day permit to park there. The VASA Trail System covers the same seasonal range for bikes and skis. Flintfields Horse Park runs the Traverse City Horse Shows through summer and into fall. The GT Butterfly House & Bug Zoo, open daily from May through Labor Day, is a walk-through butterfly house plus a bug zoo, and it is the single most reliable rainy-afternoon fix for anyone travelling with a child under ten. Elk Lake and Torch Lake are close by for paddling.
Cherry Capital Airport is the nearest airport, roughly twenty minutes away. Sleeping Bear Dunes is a day out rather than an afternoon: figure on about an hour each way from here, and if you do the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive, that loop alone eats two to three hours with the overlooks and a walk.
Who the Retro Condo actually suits
Couples and small families, in that order. The bedroom holds a queen; the living room has a queen sleeper sofa with a mattress topper on it, which is why four is a real number here rather than an optimistic one. Two adults and two kids work. Four adults who all want a door that closes, less so.
It was remodelled recently and reads retro-modern rather than cottage-beige. Bay views, a patio, shared beach access to a long run of sand on East Bay. There's a full kitchen with a convection oven and a Keurig, so breakfast doesn't require getting in the car. There's no washer and dryer in the unit, which matters if you're travelling with a toddler or staying a fortnight, and it's the one thing I'd flag before you book rather than after.

Bringing the dog, or bringing a laptop
One pet is allowed at the condo, which is the thing that decides it for a lot of people: there is no shortage of water and trail around here and very little point coming with a dog you have to leave behind. Confirm the current pet terms with us when you book, since limits and fees get reviewed.
For remote work, the condo has a dedicated workspace and fast WiFi, and self check-in runs on a smartlock, so a late Friday arrival after a day of calls doesn't involve meeting anyone at the door. I'd be honest about the geometry: it's a compact home, so one person working while another makes coffee is fine, and two people on simultaneous video calls is not. Free parking on site, which in July in this part of Michigan is not nothing.
When one bedroom stops being enough
Somewhere around five people, or around the second set of grandparents. If that's your group, the other Williamsburg home we manage is Luxe 3BR | Bunkhouse + Private Beach | Near Resort, and it's a different animal entirely: three bedrooms plus a detached bunkhouse, sleeps nine, private beachfront on East Grand Traverse Bay, a fire pit, a washer and dryer, and the Grand Traverse Resort about a mile away. It is not a one-bedroom alternative and I won't pretend otherwise. It's the answer when the guest count changed after you started searching. Two things to know: no pets there, and the bunkhouse water is shut off from the first of November until spring, so a winter booking is effectively a three-bedroom house with a very good view.

Three things to sort before you book
- Your dates and your real guest count. Availability moves fast in summer and through horse show season. Tell us the number of people, not the number of bedrooms, and we'll tell you which of the two homes fits.
- The pet. One is allowed at the condo. Message us with the breed and size and we'll confirm the current terms.
- Laundry. No washer or dryer at the condo. For stays past a month there's a refresh service with fresh linens and a light clean, for a fee.
Everything we manage is booked direct, which means you're talking to someone who lives here. Both Williamsburg homes come with the Forever North Guest Assurance Package: 24/7 maintenance support, weather-delay rescheduling subject to availability, a guest portal for payments and trip details, and a local treat from Cherry Republic waiting for you. Send us your dates and we'll sort the rest.
